An intensive 2 days in which you will make an attractive and nicely proportioned dovetail box with a tilt top lid. This course is suitable for more advanced woodworkers who are accomplished at cutting dovetails.  
You will need to bring chisels, a jack plane, a block plane, marking knife, marking gauge, fret saw and fine dovetail saw. You won’t need a magnetic guide, the dovetails are all cut free hand.  
You will be shown a quick and easy finish and go home with a very nice completed box. My workshop is warm and well equipped and has a selection of benches with vices all suitable for cutting dovetails (no Record vices!).  
Saturday 9.00am-5.00pm and Sunday 9.00am-4.00pm.  
Classes will be limited to 4 people to ensure plenty of attention for all (min 2 to run).

This intensive one day course will have you sharpening and honing your chisels, planes, wheel marking gauge, marking knife etc to razor sharp edges. You will learn how to make this task quick and easy in the future and take your woodworking accuracy to a new level. The equipment used is not expensive and advice on what to buy and where will be provided. Please bring your hand tool kit along no matter how old or new!  
This course is held the day before my dovetailing course and would be a very good addition.  
9.00am-5.00pm tea/coffee and biscuits included, lunch can be bought locally.

An intensive 2 days in which you will make an attractive and nicely proportioned dovetail box with a tilt top lid. This course is suitable for active woodworkers who would like to learn how to cut perfect dovetails by hand.  
You will need to bring chisels, a jack plane, a block plane, marking knife and wheel marking gauge. If you have a dovetail saw (372 is best) and one of my magnetic dovetail guides then please bring them. They can be bought from Classic Hand Tools. I have saws/guides at the workshop which can be borrowed.  
You will learn how to cut crisp perfect fitting dovetails straight from the saw as well as installing a friction fit wooden lining and a leather base. There will be plenty of work on the shooting board. You will be shown a quick and easy finish and go home with a very nice completed box. This intensive 3 day course would suit active woodworkers proficient at hand cutting dovetails. You will learn the classic box making techniques of achieving a soft close lid and a piston fit tray which descends on a cushion of air (see my YouTube video). The dovetails will be cut with my 1:6 magnetic dovetail guide and no372 Japanese dovetail saw, both available from Classic Hand Tools.  
You will need razor sharp tools including chisels, wheel marking gauge and jack plane. If you are unsure about the sharpness of your tools or your ability to cut dovetails then it would be a good idea to attend my sharpening day and 2 day dovetail course on 10th - 12th September 2021.  
Other techniques will include using a shooting board, edge jointing and fitting Andrew Crawford’s Smart Hinges.

Scandinavian ’Add On’ Shoulder Vice (Course now full) £290

This is an extremely useful add on vice, similar in purpose to a Moxon vice. It’s ideal for dovetailing offering clear access down to the floor (no guide bars in the way) and capable of holding boards of any width. The single screw is much easier and faster to use than the twin screw Moxon vice.  
The vice is made of 4" thick hardwood and the screw will be a massive 2 1/2" diameter. You will be tapping and threading the screw in the class as well as shaping the octagonal screw hub.  
We will be using the Festool Domino machine to help with the alignment of parts.  
Please bring a block plane, smoother/jack plane, wheel marking gauge, and a flat soled spoke shave. If you have some bar clamps that would useful as there is a lot of gluing up to be done!

An intensive 2 days in which you will make a very useful little foot stool. This project is more in depth than it may appear at first glance and is suitable for active woodworkers with razor sharp tools.  
You will learn how to make attractive and very strong through tenons the ’Barnsley’ way with a technique dating back to the arts and crafts period. The mortices are all flared and the contrasting carefully prepared wedges will ensure the tenons are a perfect even fit. The parts will be shaped, rounded and chamfered by hand, which involves plenty of work with a block plane and spoke shaves.  
All the work will be with hand tools and you will need to bring a chisel set, a bench plane, block plane, marking knife, wheel marking gauge (ideally with 2 cutters) spoke shaves (flat and round) and a fret saw. These will all need to be razor sharp. If you are missing any tools these can be borrowed.

Make a Box With a Piston Fit Drawer (Full,contact me for reserve list) £450.

Building this box will teach you the techniques required to create a cabinet capable of housing a piston fit drawer. With just under fifty dovetails to cut by hand it’s not for the faint hearted and represents quite a challenge. Precision is the key, along with good marking and layout techniques, all of which will all be covered in this three day class.  
Your materials will be provided along with a range of finishing products.  
To get the most from this class you will need to be proficient at dovetailing and confident in your sharpening skills.

An intensive 2 days in which you will make a very useful Krenov style wooden jack plane. The main body will be in beech (or similar) and will have a Lignum Vitae sole and be fitted with a high quality Hock blade and chip breaker. The plane will be 13" long with a 1 3/4" wide blade, great for smoothing, flattening and using on the shooting board.  
Most of the work will be with hand tools and you will need to bring a chisel set, a bench plane, block plane, marking knife, spoke shave, a rasp and wheel marking gauge. These will all need to be razor sharp.

A very attractive box featuring angled dovetails to the sides and a curved lift off lid. If you have attended my Hand Cut Dovetails Made Easy course this would be very good next step up. The dovetails are cut using my 1:4 dovetail guide and my 90 degree guide, if you have one or both of these please bring them along although I have both you can use. The lid is supported by a friction fit mitred lining which is also cut to the angles of the sides. The curved lid and carcass are shaped with spoke shaves and sanding blocks.
